Dutch hotel group citizenM opens an affordable luxury 230-room hotel at Amsterdam's Schiphol Airport in early 2008. Budget hotels follow in London, Glasgow, Barcelona
The Dutch citizenM hotel group is opening a new budget hotel at Amsterdam's Schiphol Airport in early 2008. The affordable hotel will have 230 rooms and prices will start at €69 per room when bookings open on October 31, 2007. The citizenM group's philosophy is "affordable luxury for the people".
The Dutch budget hotel group gets its unusual name, citizenM, from its belief that modern travelers are all 'mobile citizens' whose needs must be catered to. Michael Levie, the CEO of the citizenM hotel group said that mobile citizens are "sophisticated travelers. People who value personal choice, contemporary design, friendly technology and the proximity to a city – for an astonishing price."

With prices at the Amsterdam budget hotel starting at €69 per room per night, the cheap price is certainly astonishing. All the more so as rooms will come equipped with a super king-sized bed, a flat-screen LCD TV, ambient lighting, a rain shower and a wall-to-wall window providing plenty of natural light.

The citizenM budget hotels will also eliminate those hidden additional costs that can add a lot to what seems like a cheap hotel room deal. Internet access will be provided free of charge, and there will also be a free movies-on-demand service. All rooms are 14 square metres in size, and citizenM built its own factory to ensure consistency of quality and design.

Amsterdam Airport Budget Hotel: New High-Tech Features
There are many new high-tech features in the budget hotels from citizenM. There are self check-in kiosks, and when guests make an online booking, they can choose their preferred personal settings for lighting, music, mood and temperature. When guests check in and the personal key card is issued, the room is adjusted to these personal preferences before the door is even opened. The choices are also remembered for future bookings too.

citizenM Budget Hotels: Future Plans
After the opening of the Amsterdam Schiphol Airport budget hotel in early 2008, citizenM will be opening its second 'affordable luxury' hotel in Amsterdam's city centre towards the end of 2008. The citizenM hotel group then plans to open a further 20 budget hotels throughout Europe, including major cities such as London, Glasgow, Barcelona, Berlin, Milan, Brussels, Moscow, Paris, Istanbul, Warsaw, Budapest and Copenhagen.
